December 2009 marks the official anniversary of the world’s first Quartz wristwatch, the Seiko Quartz Astron 35SQ. What made this a truly revolutionary milestone in the watch industry was the fact that the Quartz Astron 35SQ was actually based on a quartz crystal oscillator (an electrical signal with an extremely precise frequency) and is now actually registered on the IEEE Milestone list as a major advance in electrical engineering.

Oris has created a special edition Rectangular model as a tribute to multi-talented living legend Bob Dylan. The stainless steel case carries his portrait on the case back and his signature adorns the dial. Limited to just 3000 pieces worldwide the special presentation set includes a Hohner Marine Band harmonica – the instrument for which Dylan is best known.

At this year’s Baselworld, Oris first presented the Oris Bob Dylan Limited Edition. This elegant rectangular watch with its subtly patterned dial and limited edition engravings was created using feedback and input from the great man himself.

Bob Dylan is renowned not only for his illustrious career, but also for his creativity. His work, both musical and artistic, is a source of inspiration for many. In 1965 he appeared in one of the first ever film clips for a song. The film clip for his hit “Subterranean Homesick Blues” has been copied by dozens of artists since and is widely regarded as the forerunner of the modern music video.

Michael J. Gould of Colorado, took possesion of the world’s most complicated timepiece, the Aeternitas Mega 4 Grande Sonnerie Westminster Carillon from Franck Muller.

Construction began in 2004, and features 36 complications (25 of them visible on the dial). It is comprised of 1,483 pieces and retail was $2.27 Million.

Amongts the complications it features are: a grand tourbillon, grande and petite sonnerie, minute repeater, Westminster carillon, split-seconds chronograph, eternal calendar with retrograde date at 12, days, month, 24h day and night indicator, normal leap-year cycle, indication of secular years (through a red point placed at 2, which turns into green during the month of February of secular years), moon phases, time equation, and two additional time-zones.

A new model from Gucci the “Gucci Panteon” is sleek and modern looking for the everyday man. The watch has a stainless steel case which measures 43mm. It has a sapphire crystal and is water resistant to 50 meters. The dial is sun brushed with dial markers at every hour and numeral minute marker on the inside and date window at the 4th position.

The movement is swiss but yet unknown. The watch is estimated to cost around the £600.00 mark.
