December 2009 marks the official anniversary of the world’s first Quartz wristwatch, the Seiko Quartz Astron 35SQ. What made this a truly revolutionary milestone in the watch industry was the fact that the Quartz Astron 35SQ was actually based on a quartz crystal oscillator (an electrical signal with an extremely precise frequency) and is now actually registered on the IEEE Milestone list as a major advance in electrical engineering.
